Trek Highlights
It is also known as The Curzon Trail Trek (Lord George Curzon is the former British Viceroy of India). It gives you spectacular views of the Nanda Devi reserve sanctuary and snow-capped peaks that extend into Tibet. The Kuari pass trek is used extensively by the local shepherds and gives you a full view of the splendid Himalayas. To add to the experience is Pangarchula a 4700-meter peak climb that is sure to give the trekkers a challenging high- altitude climbing experience.
To the immediate north of Kuari Pass lies the famous Valley of Flowers and pilgrimage point Hemkund Sahib near Govind Ghat and Ghangaria. Moving further north on the banks of Alakananda River lies the famous temple town of Badrinath and the remote Mana village lapped in unique history and mythology. Here in Vyas Gufa, in the ancient caves of Vedic sage Vedvyas is the place where Lord Ganesha had written legendary epic “Mahabharata” as scripted by Vedvyas.
Pangarchulla peak reserve is the where unlike rest of India Lord Hanuman is not worshipped. Hanuman was needed to identify the magical herb plant “Sanjeevani” (one that glows in the night and can resurrect the dead) from Dronagiri Parvat to revive Lakshmana brother of Lord Rama wounded in battle with Indrajeet, the son of King Ravana of Lanka. As Hanuman could not identify the plant he lifted the whole mountain and carried it back.
The local villagers rue this event as it was the right arms and shoulder of their beloved god Parvat Dev and have never forgiven him. Many botanist and scientist, forest rangers and government officials have tried to locate this mystical and legendary plant mentioned in both the epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata but failed.
To the south lies the famous Roopkund skeleton lake trail and lush green meadows of Bedni and Ali Bugyals. In fact from Kuari and Pangarchulla peak the horizon stretches far with a sea of snowcapped peaks many famous and many unnamed. Various climbing expeditions and trekking trails take place in this region.
