GUPT KHAL
Recently our groups of professional a trekker at GoClimbUp has accomplished Guptkhal Trek (04th to 08th Aug, 2021). At an altitude of 5,807 meters Guptkhal Trek in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, are very remarkable treks. This trek has been successfully completed only 3 times since its discovery by Frank Symthe in 1933 and two other groups and after long wait we have completed this journey making us the fourth to climb.
As the name goes Gupt means secret and Khal refers to drain. It is an unknown and difficult trek, and can only be endured by experienced and knowledgeable trekkers. It has been mentioned in Frank Smythe’s book ‘Valley of Flowers’. There are two routes from Guptkhal trekking one is from Valley of Flowers and another from Ghamsali Village (after Joshimath), both treks are equally beautiful and difficult, testing the will of seekers making it all the more worthwhile. The trek steers between the twin passes of Bhyundar Khal and Gupt Khal. One has to get around glaciers such as Bankund Glacier, Nilgir glacier, Nakthani glacier, Rataban Glacier, Tipra Glacier, and Gauri glacier. Fundamental knowledge of mountaineering is necessary for this trek. At certain places rope has to be fixed to cross deep crevasses. The trek offers views of Nilkantha, Hathi, Nilgiri, Rataban, Kamet and Mana peaks.
