Tungnath, Chopta Trek ‘Mini Switzerland’ (4000M), June – Feb

Located at an elevation of 2,709 metres above sea level. Chopta is an unspoiled natural destination lying in the lap of the Uttarakhand Himalayas and offers views of the imposing Himalayan range including Trishul, Nanda Devi and Chaukhamba. This place is popularly known as ‘Mini Switzerland’. Chopta village is surrounded by forests of pine, deodar and rhododendron and is rich in flora and fauna include rare species of birds and musk deer. A temple of Shiva where his arms are worshipped. Trek Highlights:

A small region of evergreen forest and green meadows, Chopta is part of Kedarnath wildlife sanctuary located in Uttarakhand and a base for trekking to Tungnath, the third temple of Panch Kedar which lies 3.5 kilometres away. Located at a distance of 1.5 kilometres from Tungnath is Chandrashila, a summit rising at 4,000 metres of altitude.

Chopta region has many treks and trails cutting through forests and grasslands. Chandrashilla, Tunganath and Deoriyatal are the best known trekking routes. This is a perfect destinations for trekkers and birdwatchers as an abundance of birds species in this dense forest of Kedarnath Wild Life Sanctuary. Trees like, oak, pine, burans and other himalayan species occupy major land part of Chopta. Since the route lies in a protected area, the trails lead through enchanting forests with panoramic views of the Himalayan Peaks, far from the maddening crowd of city,

The trek to Chopta, can be a popular adventure trip. The trek can be extended to climbing the Chandrashila Peak, and the best time to start a trek is in the morning as around afternoon clouds and rain can smudge the beautiful 3-D view of the entire Himalayan valley from the peak.

Note: December to February: Tungnath temple is completely covered with snow So, trekkers must visit the place during winters if they want to see snowfields During winters, the sky is crystal clear, and all the mountains are clearly visible. It amazingly offers a 360-degree view of snow-clad mountains.

March to May: Chopta has a very cool and pleasant climate.

June and ends in October: monsoon season that starts. Chopta does not offer clear view of Himalayas due to cloudy weather from. All the peaks are covered in clouds and the view is unclear

November to March: Chopta witnesses’ snowfall It starts snowing in the month of November and significantly increases day by day. By January it is a 4- to 7-foot-thick layer of snowfall. It is fully covered with snow during winters and during the same time, some of the routes going to Chopta are blocked
