KALANAG Known as BLACK PEAK EXPEDITION (6387M) , May – June & Sep – Oct

At an astounding 6387M, Kalanag (or Black Peak) is the highest peak of the Bandarpunch chain , followed by Bandarpunch I (Saraswati Devi Parbat) at 6316 m, and  Bandarpunch II (Hanuman Parbat or White Peak) at 6102 m. It literally means “Black Cobra” due to its upper portion’s striking resemblance to the black cobra / snake, which is a religious reference to Lord Shiva’s necklace. It is close to the Ruinsara Valley. One of the most beautiful valleys in the Western Himalayas, this expedition is a delight for trekkers both in the winters as well as summers, the climb to the summit of Black Peak is challenging and technical.

Trek Highlights:

Kalanag is accessible via the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park & Sanctuary known for its flora and fauna, and is part of the Sankari Range.

Trailing through enchanting alpine meadows, glacier basins, moraine ridges and ancient villages which give you an incredible view of the valley, along with a once in a lifetime experience of being part of the amazing local lifestyle.

The northern descent poses as an excellent terrain for skiing down where the snow cover is high. Although skiing down is adrenaline pumping, it is advisable to be accompanied by experienced skiers, guides, and instructors as the trail is laden with crevasses, which increases the risk factor considerably.

The southern side of the mountain offers a decent, gradual route, as opposed to the Northern side, which is a crazy steep, almost vertical slope. The summit route is strewn with crevasses and requires smart negotiations. Comparatively easier to scale than other Himalayan giants, Kalanag can also serve as an excellent training peak for amateur mountaineers. The expedition may be undertaken by trekkers having training in ice, rock and snow, and high-altitude experiences.
